I'm your host Rachel with Undercover Tourists, and today we're going to talk about our recommendations on the very best times to visit Walt Disney World in 2024 plus all of the cool things happening in 2024 today. I'm so excited to be joined once again by Molly from Mammoth Club. Hey Molly.

Hey, Rachel. Thank you for having me back.

Rachel (01:00):

I am so excited to have you. Almost a year ago we got together and we talked about the very best times to visit Walt Disney World in 2023. It was so much fun, but it was also my very first ever podcast, undercover Tourist, very first podcast, and you were like the most gracious guest ever. You were so encouraging and kind and of course gave some incredible tips and tricks to the audience. So I'm so excited to have you back.

Molly (01:26):

Oh, thank you. I had so much fun. I'm excited to chat again. I can't believe it's been a year and that we're doing this again for 2024 already.

Rachel (01:33):

It's unbelievable. How has 2023 treated you?

Molly (01:36):

It's been amazing. It has been a whirlwind of a year. There has been a lot of travel, a lot of really cool experiences in the theme parks around the world. It's been an unbelievable year, so

Rachel (01:48):

I am so glad to hear hoping there's more of that in the future for 2020 for you at Undercover Tourist. Our crowd calendar has been around for over 20 years, and Molly is an Orlando local who visits the park several times a week. Together we're going to share our best insights on crowds and best times to visits. That way you can start planning your 2024 trip. So if you are headed to Disney World for the first time, or even returning again, lucky you grab your beverage of choice, sit back, and you're going to want to hear our very best tips for what to experience at Walt Disney World in 2024. I'm sure most listeners are familiar with Molly and Mammoth Club, which is made up of Molly and her husband, Alan and her best friend Max. But Molly, why don't you tell us more about Mammoth Club and you?

Molly (02:29):

So Mammoth Club is a media company owned by me, Alan and Max, as you said, Rachel, and we are all former cast members, so we love the theme parks. We love exploring Walt Disney World and Disneyland, and this year we got to do a lot of fun traveling to New York and Japan and we have YouTube videos and a podcast all about Disney Channel original movies, and we do live streams and it's basically just a lot of shenanigans and we are inviting all of you to join the club with us and come along on our adventures.

Rachel (02:54):

Yay. Well, we're so excited again to have you back and can't wait to chat more about 2024 with you. Thanks. And outside of my day-to-Day job, helping families have their best vacations ever over undercover tourist, I'm also a mom of two. I've got a zoo going on at my house, and of course we're a family of Disney lovers, so we've been to Walt Disney World in just about every season and circumstance, and that's going to continue and as our kids get older, it's just about finding new adventures as they grow, which we'll find some of in 2024 at Disney World too. So like I mentioned today, Molly and I are going to talk about everything that you can look forward to at Disney World in 2024. We'll also run through our recommendations on when to visit by season as well, kind of like we did last year. Perfect. We want you to leave today's podcast feeling totally in the know about 2024 at Disney World, whether that's learning more about what's opening, finding out what Molly's most excited for in 2024, or knowing more about each season's highlights and watch outs as you play in your trip. There's actually lots of things happening at Disney World in the late 2023 timeframe. Molly and I were just talking about this, so we're recording this in about November, 2023, but there's a ton of fun coming in December, 2023 as well.

Molly (04:00):

Yeah, the holidays are just kicking off and there is a lot to do at Walt Disney World this year.

Rachel (04:06):

Yes. So if you haven't been recently, there's going to be lots of changes you'll want to know about just from 2023. Then we'll pop into what we're most excited about at Disney World in 2024, and we'll wrap it up by talking about our recommendations on the best times to visit Disney World in 2024 by season. Molly, are you ready?

Molly (04:22):

Yes. Let's dig in.

Rachel (04:24):

Let's jump in. Like we talked about lots happened in 2023, so let's kind of start by setting the stage. So Molly, what is the early 2024 Disney World vibe going to be like? What will people have just seen at Disney World in 2023?

Molly (04:39):

Well, I think the biggest changes will have come from Epcot because Epcot is still undergoing their transformation and a lot of that is getting unveiled at the end of 2023. They're brand new, nighttime spectacular, luminous. The symphony of us debuts on December 5th, which is Walt Disney's birthday, so that's really cool, a fun way to celebrate the hundredth anniversary. They're also bringing the walls down on a lot of the front of the park and world discovery, including that Walt Disney Dreamers point statue, which I'm really excited to see. And they're also bringing the Communo Plaza, which is going to be a kind of a festival hub. They're going to have a stage for the different concerts throughout the year. They're going to have test kitchens demonstrations. So Epcot I think is going to be the biggest change of the Disney World Parks moving into the next year.

Rachel (05:27):

For sure. I totally agree. And the big openers in 2023 at Disney World. Were a Tron light cycle run over at Magic Kingdom and Journey of Water inspired by Moana at Epcot, which opened in the past month or so. So both of those are fairly new, so lots of fun stuff coming if you haven't been in the past couple of years

Molly (05:45):

And tip both of those things are better at night if you can go, they're wonderful during the day. I think Tron Superfund, I think Moana really surprised me. I wasn't sure what to expect. It was kind of a new type of experience and it was to me, perfectly classic Epcot where you were learning about something, but it was also really interactive and hands-on. But at night, oh my gosh, it's so beautiful in there. So my recommendation is to go in the evening.

Rachel (06:08):

That is a great tip. I know over on our YouTube channel we made sure that we had daytime and nighttime footage just because like you said, they're absolutely spectacular at night. Let's move into the top things that we are excited for in 2024. So wrapping up 2023, still some really big stuff to come in the next month or so, the last month of 2023, but moving into 2024, let's talk about all the things that we're excited for as of January 9th, 2024 Multi-Day tickets, no longer need a theme park reservation and you can park hop at any time. So exciting developments there.

Molly (06:38):

I am so excited about the park hopping thing. The park hopping timeframe after 2:00 PM has been the thing that I've been ready to move back to the way it used to be. I think it's perfect that way you can spend the morning and a park may be like Animal Kingdom and then hop over for lunch over at Hollywood Street. I just think it frees up your day so much and as someone who for YouTube is constantly doing all kinds of wild challenges, how many characters can I meet in a day or can I ride all the rollercoasters in a day? This is going to make that a little bit easier too.

Rachel (07:08):

Yes, I'm so excited for it. Less restrictive for sure opens up your day in a great way. And again, going back to not needing a theme park reservation, that's huge. That was instated in 2020 after the pandemic or sort of during the pandemic, but as a way to kind of keep an eye on capacity for folks and that is going away. So you no longer after January 9th if you have a multi-day ticket, the need to make a theme park reservation. There's one other kind of generic update that we were given. We don't know a lot about it. We know it potentially will be pretty big, but that is that Disney is looking at simplifying the Genie plus experience for visits in 2024. Again, we don't know a lot about this. Genie Plus is the kind of paid skip the line option over at Disney World. But what they told us is that they are going to try to give guests the opportunity to spend less time planning in the park and exploring ways that guests may be able to make Genie Plus and individual Lightning lane selections before the day that they're visiting the park. So more information should be coming about that. We were told a 2024 timeline, but not an exact date just yet.

Molly (08:13):

Also coming back in January, starting January 9th, 2024, they're bringing back the Disney Dining Plan, which was hugely popular for resort guests prior to the park closure in 2020 and it's finally coming back. So I know you guys have all the details about what's included and the prices and everything over on the Undercover Tourist website, but I know people are very excited about the return of the dining plan, which works for some people. Great. Maybe not a great option for others, but it's a way to prepay for some of your meals around Walt Disney World making it a little bit easier once you get there.

Rachel (08:44):

Yes. The other fun thing that is continuing in 2024 at Disney World is that onsite benefits for Walt Disney World Resort hotel guests are continuing. So those include early theme entry where hotel guests are able to get into the parks about half an hour early extended evening hours for deluxe and villa guests and complimentary self-parking at the hotels and the theme parks for hotel guests. Let's hop into a fun one then, Molly

Molly (09:09):

In 2024. Yeah, I think it's got to be Tiana's Bayou Adventure.

(09:14):

Yeah, I think that's definitely the thing I'm most excited about. So this is the re-imagining of Splash Mountain in the Magic Kingdom and over at Disneyland if you're talking West coast. But it is a trip down the Bayou. It's the same attraction track as Splash Mountain, but it's been completely themed to Princess Tiana and her adventures after the wrap of Princess and the Frog. So she's headed down looking for all her different ingredients. She's going to be cooking up something for Mardi Gras and she's got a whole new outfit, the sneak peeks that Imagineering has given of the animatronics of Louis. The alligator look amazing. I'm really excited about it and I'm very hopeful that they've promised that it'll smell like Beignets in the queue, but I am just manifesting that they bring beignets to the magic Kingdom that I can eat.

Rachel (10:03):

That would be amazing. Yes, over around the pond undercover tourists. We are a family of frogs of course, so we we're extra excited to season some froggy representation in the parks and cannot wait to go down the bayou with Giannis.

Molly (10:15):

Yes, I notoriously do not like water rides and yet I am very excited to see the update here. I think it'll be awesome.

Rachel (10:23):

Will you go on with the poncho or are you just like hard? No, I'm not a water person.

Molly (10:27):

So I do have what I call the patented Molly Water Ride outfit and it is a rain jacket zipped all the way up to my chin and a hat, and then I take the hood and I hide in the hood as much as possible and it works pretty well on Splash Mountain. Splash Mountain. You didn't get that wet on. It does not work well on all water rides like Cali River Rapids, but it's pretty efficient on Splash Mountain.

Rachel (10:51):

That's good to know. Definitely. So you're one of the only other people I've met that is like, I will only go if I have a poncho. I'm just not about, I don't want to walk around in wet clothes. Doesn't sound like fun to me.

Molly (11:00):

Wet socks, nobody. I don't want that. It's not for me. I love it if it's for you, but I just do not care for getting wet in the middle of the theme park day. But I will make a happy exception for Tiana.

Rachel (11:13):

Well, I'm hoping that there's a ride photo still on this ride and reopen, so that way we can watch Molly go down in her signature water outfit. The next one that I'm excited about is that there's going to be a new Indian food restaurant at Disney Springs. Have you heard about this, Molly?

Molly (11:30):

Yes. I am also very excited about this. I love Indian food.

Rachel (11:34):

It sounds delicious. So it's going to be located in the marketplace just behind Disney's days of Christmas. It's called Eat EET, and they're going to have some shareable dishes. So a bread service who doesn't love bread service. I'm getting Sana vibes, including a pimento whipped paneer tanori chicken poutine with masala fries and a tomato butter sauce walking tacos, but Indian style, samosas, non pizzas, you name it. I'm super excited for that one.

Molly (12:03):

Yeah, this sounds amazing. My only problem with it is there's too much good food at Disney Springs and it's like overwhelming the amount of choices that you have at Disney Springs. But what I love about this is it seems like kind of a twist on Indian food and it's maybe making it a little more approachable for someone that's never had Indian food before but has maybe had a taco. So I love when restaurants can kind of bring in new people to try new flavors they haven't had before. And I love Indian food, so I will definitely be there, especially that pimento whipped veneer cheese is calling my name

Rachel (12:35):

Sounds so good and I love that it's all shareable. I love family style stuff too. There's also another event returning in early 2024. Molly, do you know which one I'm talking about?

Molly (12:46):

Yes, after hours events are coming back. Woo.

Rachel (12:50):

Did you go last year?

Molly (12:51):

I did. We went to all three of them actually last year. So the after hours events are held at Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios. They're separate at ticketed event, but they are very limited capacity. So the appeal is that pretty much all the rides are walk-ons. We went and Rise, the resistance had a five minute queue of, I think of all the rides we did at all across all three parks. The longest we rated was maybe 15 minutes regarding the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind. So they're really fun, they've got a fun vibe. Epcot especially had a DJ that was pumping out some awesome hits. He was playing a mix of Disney music, but also Whitney Houston and nsync. It was the perfect playlist and there's characters out and they have snacks you can purchase, but they also have included with your ticket popcorn and Mickey bars and they're just a really fun event and I'm glad they're coming back.

Rachel (13:46):

They're so fun. And for night owls too, I know Molly is a night owl. It's perfect because it's after park hour, so it's a little bit later. But if you're coming from the West Coast for example, or you're a night owl, it's a great opportunity like Molly mentioned to see shorter waits for some of your favorite rides. So after hours events, we'll return to Hollywood Studios on January 10th, magic Kingdom on January 11th, and then Epcot will follow on February 2nd and tickets are on sale now. And of course, undercover Tourists has discounts on those tickets if you'd like to attend. And there's a couple of highlights at these after hours events this year. So Tron Light Cycle Run, for example, we'll have a standby option for the first time ever if you're heading to Magic Kingdom. And likewise at Magic Kingdom, they're going to show Enchantment the 50th fireworks show as an exclusive after hours kind of highlight.

Molly (14:34):

I think that's really cool. I think if you didn't get the chance to see Enchantment or perhaps you loved Enchantment and it's gone now, I think that's a really fun thing to offer people that are coming to the after hours event. I wish they would do that with wishes. So if someone can make that happen, that would be great. But no, I think the way they ended enchantment with the little Walt Disney section at the beginning was really sweet and a perfect way to kind of close out the hundredth celebration.

Rachel (15:00):

Yeah, agree. And if you're heading to an after hours event, there's an opportunity for you to see both Happily Ever After and an Enchantment on the same night. So super fun. And Molly, you already kind of alluded to this, but something I'm really excited for in 2024 is Epcot in general. I really want to see that new festival area. I want to see the test kitchens, I want to see the new stage. I just cannot wait to walk through Epcot with those walls down a whole new Epcot area. Yeah,

Molly (15:27):

I think the test kitchens and the festival celebration area is going to be really neat. I know for a lot of people, festival season is kind of synonymous with Epcot at this point. They basically have a festival year round and it's just such a key part of what Epcot is as a park. I am someone that loves learning more about how they run these things, but how the chefs come up with these ideas, learning and seeing what the new flavors are every festival. So I think giving guests a chance to kind of peek behind and see the chefs in action is going to be really cool.

Rachel (15:55):

Absolutely. I agree. Something else that's fun that's happening in 2024 is the Country Bear Jamboree is getting a refresh. Molly, what's going on there?

Molly (16:05):

Okay, so it's an opening day attraction, but it's getting a new vibe. It has all original songs currently and they are working with Nashville country music artists to theme the songs that are Disney songs, but country music style. So the little preview that Disney shared was Bear Necessities, but it sounds really like folksy and bluegrass emphasis and the Bears are going to have some new movements and gestures and I think it's an interesting way to kind of breathe life into a classic attraction that's been around for over 50 years at this point and kind of just give it a new twist, bring it some new audience also probably.

Rachel (16:50):

Yeah, I totally agree. And that's another one that doesn't have an exact date, but sometime in 2024 we will see the country Bears perform their new act. We're also going to have some Star tours news coming. Molly, have you ever been the Rebel Spy on Star Tours?

Molly (17:05):

No. It's one of my life's greatest goals is to be the Rebel Spy on Star Tours. I think it's, I'm always alone and they tend to select spies that have a group that will react to you being the spy. But no, I wish every time and it has yet to happen.

Rachel (17:21):

I'm manifesting that for you for 2024. Thank you, Molly, as the Rebel spy. Truly that's all I

Molly (17:25):

Want.

Rachel (17:26):

But Ano is going to come to Star Tours in 2024. We don't know a ton about this one.

Molly (17:33):

No, I do like this though. I like that they're bringing the expanded Star Wars universe into the parks. I know they do it in Disneyland a lot with different character meet and greets, so I think this is a fun way to bring some people into Disney World as well.

Rachel (17:45):

Agreed. That gets us through some of the exciting things that are happening at Disney World in 2024. Molly, if you had one highlight or one thing that you are at the very most excited for in 2024, what would it be?

Molly (17:58):

It's got to be that pimento cheese. I mean, I think Tiana's Bayou Adventure is definitely the biggest thing so far coming to 2024. So I'm excited to see what they do.

Rachel (18:12):

Same, I know I mentioned it, but as a frog and of course as a princess and the Frog lover, I'm so excited for that one. So can't wait to learn more about it. So now that what's coming in 2024, Molly and I are ready to talk you through when to visit. So there are three big factors that we take into consideration when we're planning the best times to visit around the pond, undercover tourist, those are special events and ride openings, holidays and school schedules and weather. So those first two really have more to do with crowds. And the third is kind of for your comfort because Molly, we know that those summers are not for the faint of heart so warm, they're doable. But I mean something to take into consideration for sure.

Molly (18:55):

Yeah.

Rachel (18:56):

So the biggest unknown right now when it comes to 2024 crowds is Tiana's Bayou Adventure. So the one that we are most excited about also kind of has the most unknowns, but we do know that when that one opens, it will bring in a lot of people who are excited like us to ride it for the first time.

Molly (19:11):

Yes, ride openings are always one of those days I feel like some people don't think about and then they show up to the park and they're like, why is it so busy? And that's a brand new ride has opened up. So if you don't want to be there during a busy day at Magic Kingdom specifically, make sure you schedule around Tiana's.

Rachel (19:27):

Yes, for sure. So that's kind of the one unknown before we jump in. So let's go ahead and break 2024 down by season. So Molly, let's start with Spring and I'm going to call Spring, February, March and April, 2024. Let's start with special events and ride openings. What's going on during that timeframe?

Molly (19:46):

Well, you actually get two festivals over at Epcot. You have the Festival of the Arts, which is the first festival of the year. That will be January 12th through February 19th. And then Flower and Garden Festival starts usually early-ish March and last year it ran through July, but we don't have the official dates on that one, but we don't have the official dates on that one yet. So festival season, I love it at Epcot, it is, like I was saying, pretty much year round, but Flower and Garden Festival is my favorite of the Epcot festivals. It's just such a beautiful time to visit Epcot. They've got all the beautiful flowers everywhere and the topiaries, I love the food that comes with that festival and it's not so hot. As we were talking about at either of these two festivals. They're a great time to experience an Epcot festival and not be quite so hot.

Rachel (20:31):

For sure. I feel like all the festivals at Epcot are so fun. I personally love Festival the Arts. I love the Disney on Broadway concert series, which brings in actual Broadway performers to come sing at Epcot. So that'll be exciting to see this year as well.

Molly (20:48):

I also feel like Festival of the Arts has the most to do outside of eating and drinking your way around the festival booths because Festival of the Arts has a lot of interactive experiences. They usually have a wall where you can do paint by numbers. They've got different artists doing demonstrations, acrobats that Disney on Broadway concert series like you said. So I feel like this is a really good festival if you've got a group of all ages to come to because there's going to be a little bit something for everyone versus some of the other festivals like Food and Wine where the emphasis is more on eating and drinking

Rachel (21:17):

For sure. There's also some really fun photo ops, probably one of my favorite parts of Festival of the Arts, where you get to kind of step into these classical works of art and put yourself into them. So like Washington crossing the Delaware for example, you can step in and actually be a part of that painting.

Molly (21:33):

There's also, they do these scavenger hunts, they're usually around $10 and you buy a map of Epcot and they've hidden something all over Epcot and you have to find it, whatever it is themed to that festival. I think the Figment brush with the Masters, which is the one they typically do during Festival of the Arts, they hide figment in classic works of art like the Mona Lisa, and you have to find him hidden all over Epcot, which is a fun way to engage your younger guests that are going is giving them something to look for throughout the countries while the older people can enjoy grabbing food from the booths. But I just think the figment in the Mona Lisa is very, very cute.

Rachel (22:07):

He's so fun. But yes, both great festivals both going on in that timeframe. And I can never leave flower and garden without wanting to redo my landscaping. I don't know if you have this problem. I'm not a land, this is not my bag by the way. I don't go home, I can't do this. I'm not a green thumb, but I always leave flower and garden feeling like I could do it. This is what I need to do.

Molly (22:26):

No, I kill succulents. I am the worst gardener. So I look at it with awe and amazement and then think I could not do that.

Rachel (22:36):

No character topiaries in Molly's backyard.

Molly (22:38):

No, not unless I'm buying one from the festival, which you can do. Not the big one. You can buy a little Mickey one. They're pretty cute.

Rachel (22:44):

Yeah, they've got little bon's eyes, super cute. So in this timeframe there are also some holidays and some kind of school schedule watch outs that we'll want to talk about. So of course there's President's Day, which in 2024 is February 19th. There's also the Disney Princess Half Marathon weekend that's happening from February 22nd through the 26th. And of course this is spring break season, you're going to run into spring breakers no matter what. So over at Undercover Tourists, we're expecting March to be busier than April, but realistically March and April will both be pretty consistently busy with spring breakers. Easter this year is on March 31st, so you'll have most kids out of school on the Friday before for Good Friday, and you'll see crowds throughout that weekend. There's also the run Disney Springtime Surprise weekend, April 18th through the 21st. And Molly, you and I talked a little bit about this last year, but there's also some cheer and dance competitions during this timeframe. Those mainly fall over the weekends. And I know that people ask this question a lot online, but you won't see a huge uptick in crowds at this time. It might be a little busier than usual, but because they're busy competing, things aren't as busy during that timeframe as you might expect.

Molly (23:55):

I mostly think that the cheer and dance competitions impact resorts. If you're staying at a resort that they're staying at, they usually tend to stay at the all-star resorts because those are great places for a big group like that to be at. They're close to the ESPN wide world of sports, which is where their competition takes place. So if you're looking at your hotels, you may want to consider a different one during those weekends just to be away from those big crowds. But yeah, I don't usually see a bunch of cheerleaders in the park so much because yeah, they're busy cheering.

Rachel (24:25):

Yeah, exactly. Great insight there, Molly. And since Molly is an Orlando local, I'm going to hand it over to her for all of our weather conversations here. So Molly, why don't you set the stage for us on February, March and April? What is the weather like in Orlando during that time?

Molly (24:38):

So it's a little bit of a mixed bag, all three of those months, but definitely February and early March because it could be in the sixties, it could be in the eighties. It's really hard to predict and it most likely will change from one day to the next. So the good news is it's not quite as humid yet in those months. So even if it is a little bit hotter, it doesn't feel as hot as if you come during the summer and while there is going to be some rain, it's not rainy season yet either. So I actually think the springtime is a really nice time to come as far as weather goes, and usually February outside of those holiday and race weekends is one of the less crowded times to come as well. So February can be a really good choice for when you're planning, if you're concerned about both weather and crowds

Rachel (25:22):

For sure. That's kind of in line with what we predicted over undercover tourist. Our pick for visiting in the spring of timeframe, which would be February, March, and April would be either the first week of March or the first week of February due to crowds, weather events. Combining that all into one big recommendation. Molly, how do you feel about that?

Molly (25:51):

I think both of those sound like good Weeks. I think February will likely be a little bit cooler. So if weather's an important factor for you and both those weeks work with your schedule, I would pick February or I would look again at the festival calendar. If you are excited about doing Festival of the Arts, then it looks like February is the week for you. If you are wanting to see when Flower and Garden comes back, I would go in March. But keep in mind the first day of the festival or the first weekend of a festival usually is pretty crowded as well with all of the locals coming out excited for the new festival to kick off all of the content creators coming out to excited for the new items available. So those are also kind of sneaky, busy days in the parks that not a lot of people think about.

Rachel (26:30):

Great tips. All right, let's hop into summer. So summer, may, June and July. Molly, what's going on during that timeframe?

Molly (26:39):

So Flower and Garden will likely still be going on again. Last it ran through July and then Food and Wine kicked off in July. So Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. I'm going to sound a thousand years old, but I remember when it started in October. Now it creeps earlier every year and now it starts in the middle of July usually. So if you're coming in July, you could hit the tail end of Flower and Garden or you could hit the beginning of Fon and wine just depending on which days that you go. You also could have more after hours events historically, including H two O Glow at Typhoon Lagoon, which again, as someone who notoriously does not like getting wet and doesn't love a water park, I have not been to this event, but it always has me tempted because it actually looks like a lot of fun. There's a lot of glow bracelets and glow floats and everything looks neon and the food looks really good. So maybe 2024 is the year I cave and I go to H two O Glow.

Rachel (27:36):

We know where you can get tickets, Molly, so if you need help, we're here for you. Yes,

Molly (27:40):

I know I, I can get discounted tickets, maybe it being nighttime will help with one of my things about waterparks, which is how hot it is. And then you're carrying your inner tube around and you're sweating and it's just not for me, but maybe the nighttime will be the fix.

Rachel (27:59):

And they have some special doll whips like you mentioned to help with that. And then there's some live dj, some special character appearances. It's super fun, especially for Littles.

Molly (28:09):

It's often hosted by Party Source Rex from Toy Story, which is like, I love toy stories, so maybe I need to

And then in terms of holidays and school schedules, again, we have some more cheer and dance competitions mainly over the weekends, mainly in the early part of May. And of course we've got summer break during this timeframe, so it's about half and half for school districts in our estimation. Half of the kids are out kind of the week before Memorial Day and half of them are out just afterwards. So you'll see that crowds start to pick up usually early-ish June, and then historically, usually the 4th of July is a busier time. This past year, 2023, it was not as busy because there were some record breaking heat going on.

Molly (29:07):

Now surprise everyone, it's really hot if you visit Florida in the summer. I think people think it's hot where they live, but it is hot in Orlando in July and August. You've got a lot of humidity and a lot of people just don't prepare for visiting Disney World in the summer. Not only is it going to be likely more crowded just because that is when schools are out, but it is a little bit warmer. So there are definitely things you can do as far as the heat goes. Make sure you are planning some pool time, book a discounted Walt Disney World Room at Undercover Tourist and stay somewhere close to the parks. That way you can easily go back, get some inside nap time in a pool. Plan your inside meals at the busiest part of the day, know where the air conditioned de attractions are, make sure you're drinking a lot of water and hydrating throughout the day.

(29:53):

This is also a good time of year to go to those after hours events because it's warmer during the day and the after hours are at night. You can go in the evening to not have to worry about some of the crowds and also enjoy the park when it's a little bit cooler. And if you're going to go in the summer or really anytime that the kids are out of school, this is a great time to use Genie Plus, which we mentioned earlier, is already going to have some updates, but it's a system that it's a little confusing at first as it stands now. We'll see what happens in 2024, but once you get the hang of it, it can be really, really helpful for managing some of those longer lines. And I know you have a bunch of resources on it. On Undercover Tours, we have a ton of videos on it on Mammoth Club. We're just showing you step-by-step, how to use Genie Plus and that can really help you manage your day and enjoy your day if you're going to come during the summer, because again, it's hot

Rachel (30:39):

For sure. I agree with all of that, Molly. And really the big difference is how you're planning your day and your trip in the summer versus other times of the year. Again, to manage the heat and to make sure that you're staying hydrated and staying comfortable. So

Molly (30:53):

I will also say there are a few things. Having someone that's been to Disney World in every season and seen every major holiday play out at Walt Disney World, it is kind of fun if you go for something like the 4th of July because they're going to have some special red, white and blue treats. But most importantly, the 4th of July fireworks at Magic Kingdom are really fun. They usually do them July 3rd and July 4th just to allow more people to see them. So it's kind of one of those things where maybe you don't get to ride as many attractions as you do on another day, but you get to see a really cool firework show you're not going to see any other time of the year.

Rachel (31:25):

For sure. Well, we touched a little bit on weather during this timeframe. It's going to be hot, it's going to be rainy, pack your ponchos, pack your extra socks like Molly was talking about. Just be prepared for weather at Undercover Tourist. Our pick for the best time to visit during this timeframe would be Monday through Thursdays in the first half of May or that first week of June. Molly, how do you feel about that recommendation?

Molly (31:49):

I think that's good. It's not going to be as warm. It's going to be definitely getting a little bit warmer. It's also not going to be quite in hurricane season yet, so the likelihood of a big storm coming those weeks is a little bit less as well. My mom often books a trip in May sometime because her birthday's in May and also Mother's Days in May. And she, unlike me, has the greenest of thumbs, so she loves flower and garden. I usually spend a good amount of time in the parks in May, both working and also with my mom, so I always enjoy myself. Then

Rachel (32:17):

Fun. And I remembered what I was going to say. I was like, I knew there was something that just kept slipping my mind. Molly, I loved all the resources that you brought up. Of course, we love watching you and all of your genie plus advice. I know we mentioned that you were on this podcast a year ago for our very first episode, and in that episode we actually go into some pretty great details about how to manage if you're going during a hot time or during a busy time and you had some fantastic advice. So if you are popping on in this podcast for the first time, that very first episode has some great tips and tidbits for you. Courtesy of Molly

And I actually had to take my own advice a couple weeks ago. I was in Tokyo, Disneyland for the first time and it was super busy. And our number one tip when it comes to going anytime of year, but especially if you can expect that it's going to be a little bit busier, is make a list of your top must dos in the park. So do your research, watch mammo club videos, read undercover tourists. Figure out what in your groups are the must do rides, the must do snacks, the must do entertainment. Make a list of those things work to get those things done, whether it be through Genie Plus or taking advantage of the early theme park entry or doing an after hours make it your job to get those things done. And then anything else is cherries on top. I often tell people you want to plan so that you get the most out of your vacation, but you also want to be flexible and you don't want to schedule every single minute because often that's where the magic is.

Rachel (33:43):

I totally agree. And sort of in that same vein, having the right expectation set is totally key during these times of year, well, during any vacation really making sure that you understand how much you feel like you can reasonably get done, knowing that you understand and have a contingency plan if things don't go the way you expected them to during your day, whether that's you have a kid who decided that they're over it, right, that they are just done for the day and want to go back and swim at the pool, or whether you decide that you're just not feeling the heat that day or you feel like things are busier than you expected, or maybe that food item that you wanted wasn't there, maybe it went away, maybe it's no longer available. So making sure that you go in at the right expectations will help you make the most of your trip. Let's move into fall, Molly. So that would be August, September and October. I know big. Yay. Right? And I know some people listening are probably like, why is August part of fall? Why is August part of fall when we're talking about it? Molly,

Molly (34:39):

In theme park world at Walt Disney World, August is when Mickey's not so scary. Halloween party has started the last few years, so those Mickey Pumpkins go up and August, the kids aren't even back in school yet and Disney's like, Nope, it's Halloween, let's go. And you know what? As a lover of Halloween, I'm here for it.

Rachel (34:57):

Yes, it's such a fun time of year. I love fall.

Molly (35:00):

It's my absolute favorite. I think I mentioned this last year, but I'm a diehard pumpkin girly, anything pumpkin flavored. I want pumpkin coffee. I want pumpkin cookies. I want all pumpkin treats. So this fall is my time to shine.

Rachel (35:15):

Woo. All things pumpkin. Well, there's some special events for sure that you can get your pumpkin fix in. And I know you mentioned one of them is Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, which is a separately ticketed Halloween party at Magic Kingdom. What else is going on during this timeframe, Molly?

Molly (35:30):

So this is also Food of Wine kicked off in the summer, but it continues all the way through the fall. Usually it doesn't stop until November the last few years. You also have Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, which this year is going to be on Halloween October 31st through November 3rd for 2024. And I just love the fall because it starts cooling off a little bit. The weather's lovely in the evenings and I just love, honestly, Mickey's not so scary Halloween party. I love that event. I think it is such a fun event. I think I love seeing all the different characters come out. I love the Sanderson Sisters that booty, you parade's my favorite parade in Walt Disney World. So it's just a great event. Yeah, I love the grave Diggers. They added mini mouse, Clarabelle Cow and Daisy Duck dressed as the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus this year to the parade, which I thought was really cute.

Rachel (36:21):

It's super fun. It's a fun time of year. And I know this is also when one of your annual highlights happens, one of your favorite artists to see at a particular festival.

Molly (36:31):

Yes, boys to Men has come to Food and Wine for many, many years and it is one of my favorite nights of the year. I went this year with all my friends. Last year was their first year back since before the closure in 2020. And it's a real highlight for me. I love that they know their audience. They're like, we're going to sing our five hits and we're going to leave. And that's everybody's happy and it's the best.

Rachel (36:57):

That's so fun. So I actually had, after we left our podcast last year, I had a moment, I'm a little bit older than you, I talked about, I was like, Hey Molly, do you remember when Boy Men was on the Disney Channel? And you were like, no. And I freaked out. I was like, wait, did I hallucinate this? Is this a moment where this didn't actually happen? And I was like, but I remember setting the stage, my Titanic wallpaper in my room, my new little TV that I had that I got for Christmas. I remember seeing them on there. So actually after we talked last year, Googled it just to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating it. And it did. It was real. It happened. Okay, I need a close voice. Men was, I need a YouTube link, I'll find it for you. But yeah, they did a little concert series, which is kind of hilarious on the Disney

Molly (37:39):

Channel. I remember the concert series. How I found out about In Sync was they did in sync and concert and that's kind of what launched them for a lot of people my age because no one had heard of them and then they were all of a sudden on the Disney Channel and they were obviously amazing. So yeah, I would love to watch The Boy Men One, but how Full

So most years there's also Joey Fatone from NSYNC who is at Food and Wine, and this year it's always Joey Fatone in Friends. So he brings out a special guest and this year did you get to go see it, Molly? Did

Molly (38:26):

You see what special guest was? I didn't go. I think I was in Disneyland when this happened, so I missed it. But I've seen mini a clip. He brought Lance Bass out, so it was like a baby NSYNC reunion, just a little guy

Rachel (38:39):

And they were doing their dance moves and everything. I would've died. That is my dream. Cool. So lots of fun stuff going on in the fall. Of course, we can't guarantee a mini NSYNC reunion every year, but there are some great concerts to take in for sure. Holidays and school schedules During this fall timeframe, we've got Labor Day, we've got some shorter fall breaks going on around Indigenous People's Day, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Diwali. Tell us about the weather during this timeframe, Molly.

Molly (39:09):

So it's definitely a little bit cooler. It starts cooling off, especially as you get into October then in the summer, but this is still hurricane season and September historically is when the parks have had to close for hurricanes in recent years. Not this year, but a couple years before they had to close a day or two because of a hurricane coming. So that is something to keep in mind if you're coming during this year. I'm not saying don't come because there could possibly be a hurricane, you have no idea. But just know if you're coming during these times what the hurricane insurance policies are and how to change your trip. That's a great thing about with Undercover tourists is they do have the money back guarantee on a lot of their tickets and hotel rooms. So if you do have to change things, it's pretty easy.

(39:52):

So that is the one thing to kind of keep in mind if you're booking this time of year is that there could be some Rainier days because of the hurricanes. It also is still a little bit warm. So especially if you're going to Vicky's not so scary Halloween party, the earlier parties, one thing they do is encourage guests of all ages to dress in Halloween costumes, but keep in mind it could still be a little warm. So you don't want to go in full princess gown with all the fixings and be sweating the whole time. So just keep that in mind too. But then as you get into September and October, especially in the evenings, it's really lovely out. You can go outside and it would be in the low seventies a lot of times. I think it was in the low seventies when I went to Boys to mend with my friends at Epcot and it was just like a perfect evening

Rachel (40:36):

Just like Chef's Kiss the whole evening. Just set up just for you, Molly, to enjoy your night.

Molly (40:40):

Not sweating, just good food. What else could you want?

Rachel (40:44):

Perfect. Do you normally dress up in costume when you go to Mickey's? Not so scary.

Molly (40:49):

I have dressed up in costume to go to Not so scary. Usually for the first video, go the opening night and do a video of it. I will just wear a cute Halloween, but if I go again with friends or with Alan and Max or something, we'll dress up. This year we didn't do Mickey's not so scary as a group, but we did do Oggie Boogie Bash out in California and we were Hades in Pain and Panic from Hercules.

Rachel (41:11):

So fun. I saw your photos on social. Loved it. So creative.

Molly (41:16):

That's one of my favorite parts of going to the Halloween party at Magic Kingdom though is just seeing all the creative costumes and all. Yes, I love all the family costumes. You'll see whole families doing one theme altogether and some people go all out and it's really fun. Kind of just bonus thing about going to the parties, looking at all the other guest outfits.

Rachel (41:34):

I totally agree. People are so creative. It's so fun to see. So undercover tourist pick on the best time to visit during the fall timeframe would be September overall, like Molly was mentioning, it's slightly cooler than August is crowds are lighter and you still get the fall festivities that are in full swing. Of course the exception there is Labor Day. Molly, how do you feel about that?

Molly (41:55):

I think September is great. I think October is great as well, of course avoiding any kind of race weekend or big event like we were talking about. But I tend to really enjoy both September and October in the theme parks. Those are kind of my ideal times to visit.

Rachel (42:11):

Awesome. Well let's cap it off with winter. So that would be November, December and January. What's going on in that season, Molly?

Molly (42:20):

So that is, we go, Disney is quick. They have a day and then it's Christmas. It's usually the last Halloween party is November 1st and then literally November 2nd they had Christmas decor up. They are magic elves and fairies that do this. It boggles my mind the transformation especially of Magic Kingdom from one holiday to the next. But there is the latter half of the year is like it's a holiday the whole time. It's either going to be Halloween or it's going to be Christmas for mostly the second half of the calendar year. So usually the first Mickey's very merry Christmas party kicks off early in November this year. The first one is on November 9th. So it's usually around that time, kind of early-ish November for Mickey's Mery Merry Christmas Party, which is another specialty ticketed event at Magic Kingdom. It's super fun, it's very sweet. I would say Halloween is the fun one and Mary Merry is the heartwarming of the two different events.

(43:18):

It's got Mickey's Christmas Parade, which always ends with Santa and a bunch of the different characters. Instead of giving out candy and trick or treating at Halloween, all the different food locations, give out different cookies and cocoa or eggnog, which is one of my favorite things. I love cookies. They have a bunch of other specialty food you can purchase as well. A cute stage show with all the characters, of course, the fireworks. So it's a really sweet event and it snows on Main Street, which is the only snow that we usually get here in Orlando. So that's a fun little touch too. And then new this year in 2023 is Hollywood Nights over at Disney's Hollywood Studios, which is a new separate ticketed event at Hollywood and it has a lot. It kind of has almost a little bit more of an adult like forties, fifties holiday vibe is kind of what we're getting.

(44:10):

We're actually recording this the week that it kicks off. So none of us have been to the event yet, but there is going to be a jazz club in the Brown Derby. There's going to be a holiday show hosted by the Muppets, which I'm really excited about. The Tiptop Club at Tower of Terror is going to be bringing guests in. They're bringing back Jingle Bell, jingle Bam. So it's going to be a huge big holiday extravaganza and I hope that it is the most fun in 2023. And then I hope it's so much fun that they have to bring it back in 2024.

Rachel (44:40):

Thinkers crossed. I think that was a great overview, not only of these events, but the comparison kind of between the seasons. That was spot on Molly. I love it. And I know Molly and I were chatting right before we started this podcast about all the things that we're excited about for Jolly Wood. So yes, can't wait to experience it. And then I hope it comes back to just another great option for people who are looking to go to Disney World during that holiday season. And then I know Molly, you and I were also talking about what happens generally just after Thanksgiving, there's even more food to eat around Disney World.

Molly (45:12):

Yes, typically on Black Friday, Epcot International Festival of the Holidays kicks off. So Epcot is usually the last of the Disney World Parks to be decorated for the holidays. But when they do it, they do it big. It is I think some of my favorite decorations because each country decorates differently and each country's garland and tinsel looks a little different if you're in the UK pavilion, they have little holiday crackers and teddy bears and themed tucked into their garland. But then if you go over to Mexico, they've got little pinatas and different things tucked into their garland. So it's fun to look at all the little details throughout the countries. And then what makes it even better is that they have the holiday storytellers around the park. And so these are different entertainment offerings in different country. Pavilions teaching you about the customs of that country during the winter holidays. So they will have folks doing Chinese New Year in the China Pavilion. There's been a Hanukkah storyteller the last few years that is phenomenal. He's one of the best performers I've ever seen. I love watching him. You have a gospel choir that comes and talks about Christmas and Kwanza. So it's really fun and it's heartwarming and you learn a lot, but then you also get to eat delicious food. So it's win-win.

Rachel (46:22):

It is. It's such a fun one. And that transitions nicely into New Year's Eve. Now, new Year's Eve is not like an official festival or party, but it is a really fun time at Disney World. What can you expect during that timeframe, Molly?

Molly (46:35):

So New Year's Eve is usually the biggest at Epcot and Magic Kingdom. So Magic Kingdom is definitely your more family friendly New Year's Eve, they do the fireworks, typically New Year's Eve, Eve, so December 30th, and then also on New Year's Eve. And they're really awesome fireworks. They're 360 around the whole hub, so they're actually shooting 'em off on the lake behind you and behind the castle and all the different sides. They are phenomenal fireworks. Epcot definitely is where you need to go if you're looking for a more vivacious and perhaps adult geared New Year's Eve because they basically have a different party in each of the different countries. So one might have a silent disco, one will have a DJ going, there's tons of different drinks and food, and then they will do special fireworks as well. So I've done both for the New Year's Eve holiday.

(47:29):

Both are a ton of fun. Both are very busy, so keep that in mind. But they're both a really fun way to ring in the new year. Also, I have to mention my favorite thing that happens this time of year that is not any of the headliner events for the holidays, but at Animal Kingdom they bring out these puppets that are snowy creatures. So there's reindeer and polar bears and a fox and a seal, and they're so joyous and magical and you will swear you're interacting with a real animal. But it's really just the puppeteers being the most magical human beings. I'm possible. And it's like, I think Animal Kingdom is very underrated this time of year.

Rachel (48:07):

Yes, I agree. In general, animal Kingdom is probably my favorite park to be perfectly honest. I think it's so underrated.

Molly (48:14):

It's definitely mine. It's my favorite. Hands down. I love it.

Rachel (48:18):

But they also do this really cool, they call them the Tree of Life awakenings during this time of year where there's these snowy settings that kind of come to life on T of life that walk you through sort of a holiday scene, but set in a very natural setting. That's very line with the Animal Kingdom vibes. It's super fun to see

Molly (48:34):

Plus Santa in years past rides by on a boat, and that's just fun. That's just silly. So don't skip Animal Kingdom this time of year.

Rachel (48:43):

Not at all. Not at all. And you will find Santa all across the resort, and once he's done, once he needs to go back to the North Pole, you'll find Santa Goofy in his place as well. So it's a really fun time to be at Disney World for sure. It's also a really busy time to be at Disney World again because most people are out of school. It's also, I think, on a lot of bucket lists to see Disney World for the holidays. And it was on my bucket list. It still is on my bucket list to go again. It's just a beautiful time of year, so it is a little bit more crowded, but here's some of the holidays and watch outs during that timeframe. So starting back in October, like we were talking about, wine and Dine is going on and the run Disney Wine and nine half Marathon weekend is taking place October 31st through November 3rd.

(49:26):

Veteran's Day in 2024 also falls on a Monday, making it for a three day weekend, so that a timeframe will be a little bit busier. The week of Thanksgiving is typically pretty busy as well, and then the busiest time through the whole year is holiday break. So that week between Christmas and New Year's especially you'll find is pretty busy because everybody's out of school and looking to celebrate. Moving into January of 2024, Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend in 2024 will be taking place January 3rd through seventh, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be taking place January 15th. So expect things to be busier around those dates. Molly, what should people expect here from a weather perspective?

Molly (50:08):

So this is also a little bit of a mixed bag in November. It's November, right now the high tomorrow is 87, so that's hot, but in the evening it's supposed to get down to the high sixties, so you're probably going to have a big swing during this time of year. My best advice you are coming in the winter months is to pack layers because it'll be like that. It'll be really nice and warm during the day, but then it'll actually get a little bit chilly in the evening time. So I usually have a sweatshirt or a blanket scarf or something tighter on my waist or easily tucked into my bag so that I can add and remove layers as needed. It can get cold here. I know that's surprising for a lot of people. I remember when I did my college program a million years ago, people from New England were telling me it was colder in Disney World than it was at their house, which is oh my

Rachel (50:58):

Gosh,

Molly (50:59):

Wild. So the best advice, no matter what time of year you're coming, but especially this time of year when it is such a mixed bag, is to make sure you're accurately watching the weather. It's not always correct. It's not always correct about rain, but it's usually closer about the temperatures outside and kind of just pack accordingly. So you may need your jacket, you may need jeans, but you may also just need a sweatshirt and a scarf in the evenings

Rachel (51:23):

For sure. Good to know. At Undercover Tourist, our pick on the best time to visit during this timeframe is early to mid-December if you're wanting to get in the holiday hoopla or the week before Thanksgiving, if you are Okay. Missing the Festival of the Holidays. Molly, what are your thoughts?

Molly (51:40):

I absolutely agree with that. I often give out first two weeks of December as one of my best times to go, just because you get to enjoy all of the holiday festivities, you get to see the beautiful decorations and eat all of the fun festive food, but you're not actually in the big major crowds that come in as you get closer and closer to Christmas and through the rest of the year.

Rachel (52:01):

Love it. Do you have a favorite festival of the holidays? Food Find?

Molly (52:06):

Ooh, that's a good question. Now off the top of my head, I'm a cookie girl. If I was going to pick one general dessert, it would be cookies. And at all of the different festivals, they do these different crawls where if you purchase certain amount of items that are all within one category off this specific list of dishes, you get a prize. And that prize is usually more food. So my favorite of these crawls is at Food and Wine. It's a meals Fage montage, so everything is a cheese dish and cheese is my favorite food. But at festival, the holidays, it's a cookie stroll. And so there are several different booths that offer different kind of Christmas and holiday cookies, and if you eat five of them, you get another cookie. And I just like being rewarded for eating cookies with more cookies.

Rachel (52:56):

Who doesn't? I know we did that one last year. It's so fun. And we actually bought, it doubles as a souvenir, but we bought a little cookie jar just because after we had been around the world tasting around the world, we did not have room for five cookies in our day. So we ate a few of them and then put the rest in our little cookie jar and got to take it home. That's perfect. Love that. All right, well, that is a wrap on visiting Walt Disney World in 2024.
